Magnetic-Activated Sperm Sorting
MACS Sperm MACS (Magnetic-Activated Cell Sorting) is an advanced technique used to separate apoptotic sperm (sperm undergoing cell death) from healthy, functional sperm. The principle of MACS involves using magnetic microbeads that bind specifically to abnormal sperm cell membranes. When the treated semen sample is passed through a MACS column containing a magnetic field, the apoptotic or defective sperm are captured and retained by the magnetic field, while the healthy, high-quality sperm pass through. These selected sperm — considered high-quality spermatozoa — are then used in subsequent IVF or ICSI procedures to improve treatment outcomes.
